Woolgoolga Falls at Sherwood Nature Reserve, Coffs Hinterland

Woolgoolga Creek on Woolgoolga Falls walk

Living in Woolgoolga, you’ll love the active lifestyle on offer, being nestled right into all that nature’s playground has to offer, including beaches, lakes, mountains, creeks, mountain bike trails, coastal walks and hinterland hikes galore.

Swell Woolgoolga is surrounded by natural beauty, and is only a short drive to the idyllic Coffs Hinterland.  Spoilt for choice with national parks and state forests – one of the closest natural settings to visit from Swell is Sherwood Nature Reserve, home to Woolgoolga Creek Picnic area and Woolgoolga Falls.

Coffs Hinterland Beauty  10 Reasons Locals Love Woolgoolga

Woolgoolga Falls bushwalk

Just 10 minutes drive from Swell, the bio-diverse and tranquil Sherwood Nature Reserve is open year-round and is perfect for picnics, bird watching, gentle hiking and even a cheeky splash in Woolgoolga Creek in the warmer months.

We recently took the family to explore this easy, yet very rewarding, 3.6km (return) Woolgoolga Falls creekside rainforest walk. It’s suited to most abilities (unfortunately it’s not pram or wheelchair friendly, as there’s a few stairs and a few fun rock hopping moments).

It’s worth the short drive from Swell to see this Coffs Hinterland beauty.  You can park and start this short walk from the Woolgoolga Creek Picnic Area.

Why not enjoy a picnic here afterwards? It takes around an hour return to walk at a gentle pace, and be sure to wear shoes that you don’t mind getting wet! You’ll be rewarded with some epic waterfalls and picturesque scenery along the way!

There are toilets, picnic tables and open grassed spaces for a blanket as well as a barbecue area to enjoy.

Accessed via Gentle Annie Road, the picnic area and the walk is very well maintained.  NSW National Parks and Wildlife Services volunteers do weeding here on the fourth Sunday of every month – reach out to them if you’d like to join in this worthy activity and learn more about rainforests.
